Obakki Show, F/W 2010
Written & Photographed by Christina Lanteigne
The industry’s best were out last week for the Obakki F/W 2010 show. The flagship store was buzzing with stylish Gastownies and well-dressed guests gathered to preview the label’s latest collection. With plenty of leather, oversized knits, sheer corsets and metallic glitz, this collection showed a much edgier side of Obakki.

The label’s signature soft, flowing silhouettes were perfectly offset by well-tailored skinny leather trousers, slouched in all the right places. This aesthetic was defined in the show stopping finale, a flowing black maxi dress with a criss-cross leather bust. Asymmetrical shapes and unusual patterned lines gave new life to undone classics, such as the draped trench which is sure to be a hot item come Fall. Faux mink bolero’s and sparkling mini’s showed a bit of flapper glam. While the menswear was somewhat disappointing, the collection and event overall were amazing and Obakki continues to breath new life into Vancouver fashion.
