Best of the City 2010

In this week’s addition, the GastownBlog team features the many Gastown businesses that have made it on the West Ender Best of the City: Reader’s Choice. 2010 Paralympic Games

The 2010 Winter Olympics may be over, but, starting tomorrow, Vancouverians will have another chance to proudly wear the red and white team Canada colours . Starting from tomorrow till March 21st, the 2010 Paralympic Winter Games will feature athletes and officials from 43 countries, competing in 64 medal events in Vancouver and Whistler. The Gastown Blog team went out to the streets, asking people what game(s) they’re looking forward to watch!

The Place to Be!

At the height of the Olympic hype, Gastown’s own Canvas Lounge transformed into a high-energy Ultra Lounge. Local, national, and international media personnel came to party where many of the medal bearing athletes celebrated. Canadian gold medalists Jon Montgomery, Ashleigh McIvor, and Alexandre Bilodeau among many others were spotted. Check out the awesome videos below.

The 2010 Winter Olympics was one of the proudest moments in Canadian history. People were united regardless of age, race, or ethnicity, to stand together in celebration of our remarkable athletes. If there’s one thing we can learn, Canada is a vast nation, rich with cultural diversity.

Canada’s Arctic Sports

If you haven’t noticed yet, there are a number of free pavilions and hospitality houses set-up around Vancouver during the Winter Olympics. It’s pretty cool since you get to enjoy live performances, sample regional cuisine and much more all for free! Canada’s Northern House is just one of those many exciting venues.The Gastown Blog caught up with the people from Canada’s Northern House as they were showing off their Arctic Sports in front of Hill’s Native Art.

Canada squeaks a win vs Switzerland

It was too close for comfort for many Canadians, as Team Canada pulls a win over Switzerland in Men’s Hockey. 3-2 OT was the final score, but for Team Canada needs to have a better effort. Here’s what some people had to say.
